MMS Has Gone Green!

MMS now provides consultation services for our clients who want to (in some cases, have to), create projects that instill GREEN building practices. Green building goes beyond adding a few solar panels to the roof; it is simply a better way to build.

Green Building incorporates better design, construction, and maintenance. Green Building is doable and worthwhile on every project.

MMS lends a hand designing communities, reviewing building concepts, and entitling green projects.

New Central San Board Director!

MMS is proud to announce the successful election of our President and Principal in Charge, Michael McGill, to the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District’s Board of Directors.

This is Mr. McGill’s first attempt at public office.

The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, referred to as “Central San”, is a Special District, or a limited purpose government, that was formed in 1946.  Currently, its facilities collect and treat 45 million gallons of sewage per day generated by approximately 440,000 residences and businesses within the service boundary.

Central San’s Board is the legislative body that governs the District, sets policy, hires the General Manager and Secretary, appoints District officers, and is ultimately responsible and accountable to the people within the District.

Mr. McGill plans to help Central San continue its mission of protecting the public health and environment by:

• Collecting and treating wastewater
• Recycling high quality water
• Promoting pollution prevention

MMS Design Associates is proud to be a part of two of the top three largest projects in the East Bay! - East Bay Business Times, Nov. 3, 2006 

Kaiser Antioch Medical Center – Antioch, CA – MMS has been a part of the team that built Kaiser’s new award-winning facility in Antioch.  The project included two construction phases:  a Medical Office Building and then the Hospital.  MMS provided civil engineering, surveying, planning, and project management services such as:

Medical Office Building (MOB):

• Plans, specifications, and estimates for on and offsite improvements
• ALTA survey mapping
• On and off-site civil engineering design and field support during construction 
• Review of contractor’s requests for information, clarification requests, review materials submittals, field verification of improvements constructed, and processing contractor’s requests for payment 
• Project management and coordination

Hospital:

• Entitlement processing assistance
• Preliminary geometric design and precise alignment for Deer Valley Road and Sand Creek Road
• Preliminary oil pipeline relocation and coordination
• Water and sanitary sewer capacity analysis

Uptown Oakland Mixed-Use Project – Oakland, CA – MMS is excited to be part of this creative adaptive reuse for this large in-fill project.  MMS provided boundary and topographic surveys, as well as two ALTA surveys, for a public/private partnership consolidating seventy-eight separate properties (four city blocks) into five developable lots. From this, MMS prepared a Vesting Tentative Tract Map and Final Map for this project.  
 
This project includes redevelopment of a blighted metropolitan neighborhood into four-story mixed-use of high density residential, office, and ground floor retail commercial uses. Issues included multiple ownerships, identification of several utility lines, historical mapping, street vacation, and timing.

What’s New? MMS Design Associates (MMS), that’s what’s new! MMS has provided land development services to public and private sector clients since 1983. After 20 or so years, some things change. We keep the experience, relationships, and know-how earned as McGill Martin Self, Inc., and add to the mix new professionals, expanded services, and market areas so we can PROVIDE SOLUTIONS to a broader client base as MMS Design Associates.

We provide the same types of professional services we always have, we are just looking to re-focus our efforts on comprehensive land development services by PROVIDING SOLUTIONS for your entire project. From early land use programming and land planning, surveying, and entitlement, to municipal finance and infrastructure design engineering.

MMS has added staff, equipment, and training in order to provide a one-stop shop for land owners and developers. For our public sector clients, we are looking to improve existing developments, revitalize downtowns, or build new communities.
